About the Gold Coast
The beautiful Gold Coast region is world famous for its sun, surf and sand. Located 1 hours drive south of Queensland's State capital Brisbane, it is situated in the south east corner of the State. The Gold Coast is the sixth largest Â and second fastest growing city in Australia with a population in excess of 500,000. This exciting region stretches along 57 kilometres (35 miles) of coastline which predominantly consists of golden sandy beaches, small and easily accessible islands and sub tropical hinterland. It offers a wide variety of film location choices to meet most requirements.
There are two main geographical areas to be found in the immediate Gold Coast region, both within a half hour drive of the Village Roadshow Studios. There is the coastal area featuring sun-drenched world-class surf beaches, sheltered expanses of broadwater, canals and tidal rivers, mangrove forests, sandy flats and dunes. And there is the hinterland, locally referred to as the "green behind the gold", comprising lush sub-tropical rainforests, rural farmland, grasslands and an abundance of rugged mountainous countryside.
Gold Coast City is one of Australia's and indeed the world´s most popular holiday destinations, welcoming 10 million holiday-makers each year. It is well served by two international and domestic airports at Coolangatta and Brisbane, both of which are 45 minutes drive by motorway travelling either north or south from Village Roadshow Studios.
The city has a wonderful vibrant atmosphere and features many world-class shopping precincts and fine restaurants offering multicultural culinary delights. Being a popular holiday destination the city offers a diverse range of world class accommodation. With 25% of its resident population born overseas, Gold Coast City is a diverse multicultural city that has a pool of highly skilled multilingual residents as well as 2,500 international students studying on campus at the local Universities and Colleges.
